UCL Premier Division
Newport Pagnell Town 1 Desborough Town 1
Saturday, 05 February 2011
Newport missed the chance to regain pole position as they shared the spoils for the third time in eight days.
The Swans had the first chances of the game with a glancing shot just over the cross bar.
Clear cut chances were limited in the first half as the wind caused some crosses and passes to be over hit.
Darren Lynch got his 100th competitive goal for the Swans in the final minute of the first half from the penalty spot after Jordan Spruce was brought down in the area.
More chances opened out in the second half for Newport. Daniel Nti shot just skimming the cross bar then the Desborough defenders having to block a shot from Lynch.
Desborough made Jack Bridges work with a shot from inside the area, Bridges equal to the shot.
A run of improved results has boosted Desborough confidence though and Lewis Harman's 72nd minute reply gave them a surprise point against their title chasing hosts. His hard hit free kick was carried by the wind and found the top right hand corner of the goal.
Jordan Spruce missed a great chance when he found himself in some space but blasted the ball over the goal.
Lynchy then made the Desborough keeper work, the keeper making a great save.
Desborough found another way in but a point blank miss in front of the goal went skywards.
The Swans piled the pressure on in the final minutes but the Desborough defence cleared most danger and a point a piece it was to be.
When the full time whistle went the Desborough bench and team cheered as I think they were pleased with the point. I don’t mean this horrible to Desborough but im sure The Swans when consider this result as another 2 points dropped.
