League Cup Quarter Final
Newport Pagnell Town 2 Peterborough Northern Star 3
Saturday, 05 March 2011
The Star late show earned them a place in the semi finals.
The Swans were a depleted side through injuries and suspensions.
Darren Lynch came close with a header and then Vinny’s shot across the face of the goal.
After a goalless first half the Swans took a 55th minute lead through Vinny Shrieves when he turned on the spot to score close range. Then Matt Broomes added a 70th minute with some good build up play involving Darren Lynch who played a one two with broomes via a back heal. Broomes curling the ball around the keeper. At this point the game seemed plain sailing for the 2010 runners-up but PNS had other thoughts!
PNS hit the cross bar with a lob and then later again hot the cross bar with a fierce shot.
Mark Baines started the Star fight back after 80 minutes when he finish at close range.
Five minutes later Karl Gibbs hauled the visitors level with a deflected free kick and the comeback was rounded off by Jon Stead's 89th minute decider with a curling shot from the edge of the area.
