S&L surprised high riding Newport in a match delayed following an injury to referee Mark Connolly.
This was a game that the Swans found hard to really get into. S & L playing the long ball literally down the pitch causing a lot of grief for Newport.
Lee Genner gave the Foundry men the lead three minutes in when he turned the Swans defence to half volley past the new NP keeper.
The swan’s first chance came when Darren Lynch headed just past the far post from a good cross from the right side.
Our new keeper made a good close range save from their number 9.
The Second half Newport tried to play the long ball themselves, a game which didn’t really suit their style of play as there was a lot of over hit balls and very little chances were created.
Vinny Shrieves came close to scoring and produced a good stop from the Corby keeper when the ball was laid off to Vinny for him to hit hard first time.
Leading scorer Michael Byrne doubled the home advantage on the hour with Callum Noble completing the scoring in the final minute.
It could have been worse for Newport if it wasn’t for the new keeper making three great saves. Two one on one chances for S & L were snuffed out by the big keeper and then he made a good point blank save from a near shot.
Then just after that S & L chance the Swans tested the Corby keeper but he got down to the low shot.
The Swans did hit the cross bar in the dying seconds which ended up being the last kick of the game.
15 minutes into the second half the Referee tripped and hit his head on the floor. After feeling dizzy and a tad sick it was best for him not to carry on so the Linesman took over as Ref and the Referee assessor took the line. I hope the Referee is OK and makes a full recovery.
Next up Cogenhoe at Home Tuesday 22nd March.
