UCL Premier Division
Newport Pagnell Town 0 - 1 Boston Town
Saturday, 31 January 2009
The Poachers opened up the title race as they inflicted the Swans first home defeat of the season. Newport went into the game undefeated in nineteen league outings but they were sunk by Paul Goodhand's superb free kick after 55 minutes.
The Swans started the stronger of both teams, Darren Lynch shooting wide in the opening minutes. Then 10 minutes in, a point blank shot from Danny Nicholls was really well saved by the keeper.
Boston applied some pressure, Gary Bull skying the ball high into the clouds.
Darren Lynch broke through on goal for him to knock the ball past the keeper, the keeper then clipped him tripping Lynch up. But for some unknown reason the referee booked Darren Lynch for simulation. The referee was the only person on the ground that thought Darren Lynch had dived!
Half Time 0-0.
Boston came out applying more pressure. This paid off when they won a free kick on the edge of the Newport Pagnell penalty area. Paul Goodhand curled the ball into the top right of the goal to put Boston in front.
Newport Pagnell tried to reply through various chances, forcing the Boston Keeper to make some excellent saves! Darren Lynch, Vinny Shrieves, Danny Nicholls and Richard Armstrong missed various chances.
Newport Pagnell found it hard against a very physical Boston side. But Boston’s physical approach caught up with them when they had a player sent off in the final minute. He received a second yellow card.
Boston are now unbeaten in eleven games themselves.
Full Time 0-1
