Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy
Semi Final
Newport Pagnell Town 4 - 2 Aylesbury Vale
Tuesday, 10 March 2009
The Swans reached their second successive Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy final with this victory.
Richard Armstrong put Newport in front after ten minutes when he headed home a corner. But Vale didn’t give the Newport lads time to celebrate when they levelled sixty seconds later through Daniel Jones.
Various Newport attacks broke down on the edge of the Vale penalty area.
Later Newport came close to regaining the lead when the ball was blocked on the line. Then Danny Nicholls shot just over the bar.
Half Time 1-1
Newport Pagnell came out into the second half playing some better football and stringing some better passes together.
But it wasn’t until the 65th minute when Newport won a free kick on the edge of the Vale penalty area. Darren Lynch taking the free kick beating the Vale wall hitting the post then into the net to put Newport back into the lead.
But it wasn’t long before Vale was back on level terms. Aylesbury winning a penalty from a hand ball in the area. Jones’ spot kick hauled Aylesbury level for a second time.
Vale’s attempt to drag themselves back into the game didn’t last long. The Vale keeper handled the ball outside the area which again resulted in a free kick to the Swans. Lynch's second goal from another free put Newport back in the lead within a minute of the visitors’ equaliser.
The Swans made the score line safe when Rob McDonald was up ended in the vale penalty area. James Fletcher's 82nd minute spot kick wrapped up Newport's success.
Vinny Shrieves came close to scoring twice, once when he had a one on one with the keeper who saved it then just heading the ball wide from a corner.
Reading Town beat Flackwell Heath by the same score line so Newport Pagnell will meet Reading Town in the Final of the Berks & Bucks Cup on Wednesday 22nd April (Venue TBA).
