UCL Premier Division
Holbeach United 1 - 1 Newport Pagnell Town
Saturday, 04 April 2009
Newport's six previous Carters Park visits since returning to the top flight had yielded a total of just one point, so this result was far from a disaster for the Swans as their title rivals also failed to win with SL Corby and Boston both Drawing and Daventry loosing again.
Ross Nichols gave Holbeach the lead a minute into the second half and it needed a penalty three minutes from the end to keep Newport top of the pile, Darren Lynch scoring from the spot for his 27th goal of the season.
Always a difficult away trip for the Swans going to the Tigers Den!

The Premier Division top four all drew on 4th April to leave the standings at the head of the table unchanged. A Darren Lynch penalty three minutes from time gave Newport Pagnell a 1-1 draw at Holbeach who went ahead at the start of the second half through Ross Nichols. Title rivals Stewarts & Lloyds and long time leaders Deeping played out a 3-3 Occupation Road stalemate with Paul Caswell and two goal Ed Matthews the S&L marksmen and Sam Bettinson and David Cobb with a brace replying for Rangers. Boston Town were unable to capitalise after sharing the spoils with hosts Northampton Spencer, Alfie Taylor's opener for the Millers on the quarter hour matched by a Laszlo Lovas reply midway through the second period. Stotfold were the only side in the top five to win as Brett Donnelly's second half double saw them overcome Raunds 2-0 at Kiln Park. There were contrasting fortunes for the two clubs whose grounds passed Step 4 grading inspections this week. St Ives were 1-0 winners at Cogenhoe, Lloyd Howard the marksman but Daventry Town suffered a fourth consecutive reverse as first half goals from Elton Holmes and Darren Glover gave Blackstones a 2-1 away win, Tom Berwick replying for Town late on. Jamie Shaw scored in each half as Sleaford beat Yaxley 2-0 at Eslaforde Park while Jon Mitchell netted both Desborough goals in a 2-0 Waterworks Field defeat of Long Buckby. St Neots' big names were upstaged by Bourne's Miles Hunter as the Wakes won 4-3 at Kester Way. Hunter's hat trick and a Gary Walters effort gave Bourne victory with two Luke Abraham goals and one from Josh Sozzo counting for the Saints.
