UCL Premier Division
Blackstones 2 - 0 Newport Pagnell Town
Saturday, 11 April 2009
After a dozen games unbeaten it was unlucky thirteen for the table topping Swans as two second half goals gave Blackstones a surprise success, only their second win in eleven games.
Stones were the first to threaten when Elton Holmes crossed for Richard Thompson to volley goalwards, forcng Newport keeper James Howarth to tip over the crossbar.
Vinny Shrieves then missed a great chance for the visitors heading wide at the far post from Scott Mulkern's centre.
Thompson put a cross shot wide before Adam Scotcher created space with a sharp turn in the box only to see Howarth turn his well struck shot onto the angle of post and bar.
Blackstones took the lead after 69 minutes when Holmes and Chris McRoyal combined on the right to set up Thompson to open the scoring.
Jon Stead curled a shot against the visiting crossbar but he had better luck after 73 minutes, shooting low into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to double the home lead.
Newport upped the tempo but lacked a cutting edge as Stones ran out comfortable winners.
