UCL Premier Division
Yaxley 0 - 2 Newport Pagnell Town
Monday, 13 April 2009
We got there around about 2.30ish in a confused state, trying to work out where the club house had gone. It had been demolished! It wasn’t until we saw some of the Newport Pagnell crazy lot through the tea hatch that we realised that the club house had moved. We were then directed into the right door to be able to purchase Yaxley’s finest Ale and bitter shandy.
Anyway, the game:-
Newport bounced back from a first defeat in thirteen games to revive their title challenge by winning at Yaxley for the fourth successive season.
The Swans started well and almost went one up within the first 5 minutes. Darren Lynch having a shot saved by the keeper for Vinny to pick up the re-bound for the keeper to make a second save.
Shortly after Yaxley came close with a header which went just over the bar. Then again but this time the attempt was headed wide!
It was on the 19th minute when Vinny Shrieves’ attempt on goal was somehow put into the net by the Yaxley number 2.
Yaxley tried to reply and once again headed over the cross bar.
Darren Lynch had a shot superbly saved by the Yaxley keeper. Then another attempt on the Yaxley goal sailed wide.
Half Time 0-1
Yaxley tried their best to get back into the game and did begin to control the game itself. They had another chance go begging when they again headed wide.
Newport Pagnell replied well when Danny Nichols was sent through on goal when he continued a run and a 1 – 2 with Vinny. Unfortunately his shot went wide of the mark. Again Danny Nichols had another great shot saved by the keeper. Then Lynchy had a header go just over the net. Vinny Shrieves also had two headers just go over the cross bar.
The win was sealed by Rob Macdonald twelve minutes from the end. A brilliant run by Rob through the defence was made after he intercepted a pass. On his way through he was deliberately tripped, but as he fell he managed to toe poke the ball into the back of the net to seal the victory and the points for the Swans.
Full time 0-2
