UCL Premier Division
Newport Pagnell Town 0 - 2 Northampton Spencer
Saturday, 18 April 2009
Newport Pagnell was forced to make some changes due to players missing from injuries etc.
At first the Swans attack was pushed back as they sat too deep. This allowed Spencer to get the first goal of the game. Defender Ray Hackett gave the Millers the lead ten minutes in when he got on the end of a set piece to put Spencer in front.
Newport Pagnell came close when Darren Lynch shot over then Drew Mittens’ long range shot went wide.
A second goal in the final minute of the first half from top scorer Alfie Taylor sealed a surprise outcome. Spencer was awarded a free kick when they caught the Swans off guard. The free kick was threaded through the Swans defence for Taylor to double their advantage.
Half Time 0-2
Newport made some changes in the second half bringing on Lewis and Kwazi. They both made a big difference up front with more attacking play created.
Darren Lynch headed just over then later shot wide at close range. Scottie also had a shot himself then Rob forced a good save out of the Spencer keeper.
A few more chances went amiss which really told the story - that it wasn’t going to be the Swans’ day!
Spencer really only troubled Bruce once when he had to pull off a good save.
Full time 0-2
The Swans' hope of a league title hang by a thread now but anything is possible in football. With The Swans having to travel to SL Corby, Corby themselves has also got to travel to Holbeach and Daventry Town. But Newport Pagnell need to be aware of Boston Town and Deeping who can still claim second place!
