Newport Pagnell Town Lions bounced back from their disappointing cup exit at the weekend with a demolition job on the unfortunate Kempston team.
Straight from the first whistle it was clear that they were up for it when Lewis had a smart shot on the turn pushed away for a corner.
2 Minutes later Scott Howkins had a shot from 20yds out which the keeper totally lost his bearings with and watched the ball strike the foot of his post, The keeper was the most relieved player to see the ball bounce away towards the corner flag than into his net.
The Lions were dominant in every department but were also trying to find their range with a couple of speculative long range efforts.
When Kempston did get the ball it was like watching Moths around a flame, It seemed that every Newport player wanted a piece of the action no less than Nathan who chased back half the length of the field to win the ball back after being dispossessed on the edge of the Kempston box.
In the 9th minute Joseph tried his luck from 20yds out with a shot which came back off the keepers chest but no Lion reacted in time to poke the ball home.
Reeve saw his shot come cross in the next attack punched away by the now very busy keeper. The key word at this stage was patience.
Scott Leech and Nathan were linking up very well on the right hand side and were quickly turning defence into attack due to the blistering pace of the pair of them.
Shayne and Joseph continued to show great determination in the midfield and with Scott Howkins dropping deep to pick up any loose ball, Kempston were being over-run.
Scott Leech was having one of his games of the season and when he linked up well again with Nathan it forced another save from the keeper who was always going to be busy.
The action was always in the kempston half and when Shayne showed yet another great turn of speed and shoot straight straight at the keeper, you knew it was only going to be a matter of time before the Newport pressure was rewarded.
On 24 minutes Scott Howkins with his tenacity in the midfield won the ball played a great ball to Shayne on the right hand side and when he took on the kempston back line there was no contest, Shayne whipped the ball across and Lewis made no mistake to finish confidently. 1-0.
The Lions for the rest of the half were so dominant that kempston very rarely got over the half way line, and if they did any advance was being snuffed out by the ever dependable back line with Oscar marshalling it to perfection.

The second half got under way with a buzz of expectancy and it continued in the same way the first ended.
Oscar tested the keeper again from long range and when Alex won the ball on the edge of the kempston box to feed Lewis in, he spun but only managed to shoot straight at the keeper.
in the 34th minute Charlie played the ball of the game when he played in Lewis through the middle of the park, Lewis didn't quite catch it the way he wanted to and shot straight at the keeper, Unfortunately the ball took a bobble through the keepers legs for a well deserved 2-0.
This prompted a comment from Mandy on the side which only a mother would make "Ah the poor goalie".
The crowd were now more relaxed after the second goal went in and the Lions continued to apply pressure to the kempston back line.
Lewis forced yet another save from the keeper after conjuring up a chance out of nothing for himself in the 38th minute.
Shayne and Charlie then forced two saves in quick succession when the Lions were taking total control of the match in every department.
Charlie was not having much luck and in the 44th minute his shot found the keeper in the right place again to save easily.
The only surprising thing was not more goals were scored as the Lions looked so very assured going forward and playing with so much confidence and belief in their ability and their team mates.
Scott Howkins won the ball on the edge of the kempston box again in the 50th minute and with no hesitation pulled the trigger only to see his shot go wide.
In the next minute Mason produced his first save when a hopeful effort from 20yds by a kempston player was made to look like plucking apples from a tree by the Newport stopper.
Mason then released the ball into open play and found Shayne on the half way line, Shayne ran on and on like "Forest Gump" shrugging off all who tried to get near him to finish with power into the middle of the goal. 3-0.
Total domination is all i can use to describe this next passage of play.
The very next attack saw Scott Howkins break free from three defenders and drill his shot past the keeper. 4-0 up after 53 minutes.
As i had my head down writing my notes for the previous goal i apologise for missing the build up but it was within 30 seconds that Nathan drilled in number 5 which left Darren with a very scary smile on his face 5-0.
The Lions were enjoying every minute of this game and when Dylan came on on the second half it looked as though he had played from the start such was his confidence and assertiveness.
The match was now being enjoyed by everyone and it was fantastic to see all the hard work over the last few weeks pay off.
In the 58th minute Scott Howkins capped a tremendous personal performance by finishing a move involving Reeve and Joseph by giving the keeper no chance. 6-0.
There was time for one last piece of drama when Shayne was up-ended on the edge of the box in the last minute. Nathan placed the ball and struck it as sweet as you like only for the ball to almost break the crossbar and go to safety.
