Long Buckby 3 - 2 Newport Pagnell Town
Saturday, 02 May 2009
The runners up medals slipped agonisingly through Newport's grasp as Long Buckby's comeback left outgoing champions Stotfold in second place in the final table.
The Swans started as the better team of the two. Some early chances were created for Darren Lynch and Jordan Spruce.
The first half went well enough for the Swans who took a 24th minute lead through Rob Macdonald. The ball was put through to him for the defender to header back to the keeper but Robs quick pace beat the defender for him to lob the keeper putting to the ball to put he Swans one up.
It wasn’t long before a second was added, 4 minutes later, a long pass from Spruce found Scot Mukern on the right side for Scottie to fire pass the keeper.
Long Buckby slowly got back into the game with 4 or 5 good crosses put into the swans penalty area. There number 7 heading just over the cross bar then later two shots scuffed wide!
Just before half time Darren Lynch had a good shot stopped by the Buckby keeper.
Half Time 0-2.
Newport started the second half how they finished the first half. The continued to attack and did add a third but it was ruled out for offside. We think the linesman put the flag up to the shout of the Buckby players as it was clearly on side!
Darren Lynch then produced a good save from the Buckby keeper. And then Danny Nichols shot just over the cross bar.
Long buckby replied when Matt Murphy started the Buckby fight back after 68 minutes, Courtney Herbert equalised two minutes later to square things level.
Danny Nichols scored from outside the area but again it was ruled out as he handled the ball.
Long Buckby made it difficult for the Newport with quick runs down the right side by there number 7. The same cross came in again for a second Murphy goal a quarter of an hour from time.
Newport Pagnell tried to retrieve something out of the game but some crosses from the away side missed there target.
You could see in the players that it has been a very long season for Newport Pagnell. The players looked very tired towards the end of the game.
Full Time 3-2
Its been a very good season this year! 3rd place in the league is an excellent achievement as we though at the start of the season top 5 would be brilliant! Also adding to that, another county cup final for the second season running and who can forget a brilliant FA Cup run, the best in Newport Pagnell Football Clubs history.
