Willen Jr Wolves 2 Newport Pagnell Tigers 5
The re-arranged game from the previous Saturday was played on a bright and warm Thursday evening at Willen Pavilion. The pitch was the smallest I have ever seen but nevertheless we kicked off needing a win keep our chances of a top 2 finish alive.
The Tiger's began impressively with some nice football being played between the front 2 of Vincent and Matthew as we pressed for an opening in the first 10 minutes, with both players going close.
Our endeavour finally paid off when a corner from the right was whipped in by Vincent for James to volley home for his first league goal of the season, a nice finish. 1-0 soon became 2-0 when Bassy burst into the box from a mistake in the Willen defence to fire past their impressive keeper. 2-0 Tigers.
The half ended with James scoring at both ends after he inadvertently put it past the on- rushing Ewan into the Tigers net. 2-1 Tigers, an unfortunate goal.
Just on the stroke of half time we restored our 2 goal advantage when goal-scoring machine Sebastian Coombes got his second of the game to make it 3-1 Newport.
HT 3-1 Newport Pagnell
We began the second half by conceding a very sloppy goal from a corner kick that wasn’t dealt with properly by our defence as it bounced around in the area for a Willen player to put it past James, who had replaced Ewan in goal, and into the net. 3-2 Newport
We soon responded when Vincent’s corner from the right was unfortunately converted into the Willen net by one of their own players, 2 own goals in an exciting game!
The game was wrapped up with a few minutes to go when Bassy completed his 6th hatrick of the season and 29th overall goal to see Newport home 5-2.
On a ridiculously small pitch that really effected the home team rather than away we came away with another vital win and a solid performance, with some better finishing the score line could have been greater. Well done Tigers.
