Well, as good as the Lions were on Wednesday night against Scots, the same team did not show up for this home fixture with CMK, we looked lack lustre and short on enthusiasm and drive, and frankly were lucky to come away with a point. A last gasp equaliser from Sagey saved part of the day.
I said consistency would be the key over these next 5 matches and that still stands! The Lions will need to get re-focused very quickly, in readiness for Wednesdays visit from Olney, there are no easy games now, each one needs to be treated like it’s the last.
A frustrating performance, CMK looked a threat on the break, but the stats, if there were any, would show that the Lions had by far the bulk of the possession time, but we just could not convert into the net. When play broke down we were slow to react, and get back into our shape. We had a number of good opportunities from corners, well-delivered, but again just not able to get on to any of them. A well-delivered ball from Mitch on one of the corners went straight into the net to get us the equaliser to take us to 1-1.
With numbers pushing forward to try and win the game we left ourselves a little open at the back, a risk we had to take I guess, CMK hit us on the counter and the CMK striker just over ran our defenders and slotted the ball past Marcus to get them back in front with about 5 minutes to go. A quick shuffle about saw Sagey come back on, and picked up the ball on the edge of the box, turned his man and struck home the equaliser, and with little more than a minute on the clock, we couldn’t quite get the winner.
But as I said, were lucky to get a much needed point out of this game, we hadn’t played well, we lacked drive and energy, and real desire to try and get a grip of this game as we should have done. We will need to be back to our very best on Wednesday night against Olney, and eradicate this yo yo performance issue, it’s one game at a time, and matters are still in the hands of the Lions, we just need to consistently play up as a team.
Four games left.
Carpe Diem!
Have a good week.
