Under 11's Match Report, Newport Lions 1 – 3 Moretonville
Before going onto the football I would like to bring to your attention and important “Health and Safety” warning regarding Swine flu - Please note that if you get any e-mails regarding catching Mexican swine flu from tins of chopped ham and pork then please ignore them – it's just spam.
Onto the footy now and this week it was over to Buckingham to face the Div 2 league champions, Moretonville for the first of two games which will conclude our season – if we won both the points would equal Harrold and Carlton's and we'd come joint 2nd in the league – if we lost, well it would confirm 3rd position.
Well, as you can see from the score above it's 3rd place for us but never the less a tremendous achievement for the lions having been promoted TWO divisions to the 2nd Div for this season so:
Well Done Darrren. Well done Kevin and very well done Lads!!
So the lions really had something to play for but the question was would Moretonville? After all they'd already won the league? - If you wanna find out what transpired then please read on as I once again attempt to detail how it all went from the superb notes of Stenographer Jo, notes which once again were so abundant they would compare favourably with Tolstoy's “War and Peace”!
The game kicked off and any question about Moretonville's commitment was answered in the second minute when following a corner they nearly scored. More attacks followed in the 3rd and 5th minute when, on a run from half way once again the opposition shot just wide so boy did we know we were in for a tough game.
The game developed into a real battle, “The Stone Mason” our Rock in goal was ably protected by Scotty “bites yer legs” Leech on the right and Alex “TNT” Tucker on the left along with Oscar “Ozzie Osborne” Freil” in the middle all providing truly heroic defence. In the midfield, Nathan“Nine Lives” Clarke, “Charley Farlie”, Mighty Joe Eva and Lightening Lewis were at their battling best while trying to build and Scottie “The Hottie” Howkins was battling away up front the team just couldn't get enough of the ball at this time.
By the the 16th Minute things were getting better - we were getting more into the game and attacking well but just as we were finding our feet the pressure from the Buckingham side eventually told and on 22nd minute they scored.
22nd Min – Moretonville 1-0 up.
Now I don't know what it is but all season long us MADS have noticed that when the Lions go behind something in the lads click and they come alive, a bit like shouting to them "dinners ready" and they suddenly spring into life and realise that they have to take it to another level – and today was no different!!
Following the kick off, the game became a real end to ender with attack after attack from both teams and it was the lions who made the break through. Recently introduced “Superfast Shayne” came belting down the wing had a shot, gathered the rebound and whacked it in left foot stylie to bring the score level.
Great goal Shayne!
26th Min – 1 each.
Now the guys were really getting on top – straight from the off “Bites yer legs” slotted an excellent ball through to Shayne's feet who passed it onto “The Hottie” only for him to spin, shoot and miss by a smidge – this and another couple of close run chances took us up to half time with Newport in the ascendancy.
Half time 1-1
During half time we MADS were discussing the unfortunate burglaries suffered by two of the premierships top players on the same evening last Month.
Man U's Ryan Giggs had 70 Welsh international caps, 2 champions league winning medals, 11 premiership winning medals, 1 world supercup medal, 2 world team championship medals, 5 FA cup medals and one F.A. “players player of the year” medal stolen while Arsenals Adebayor lost a toaster.
After the kick off it became clear that the half time had come just at the wrong time for Newport as Moretonville came out all guns blazing, and so did Newport and the game hung in the balance as both teams really went for it. Newly be-pitched Jamie “tosh” Latarche was playing a blinder at left back, as was Mason but on the 3rd Minute of the second half a long and high, prospective hoof toward the Newport goal conspired to bounce enormously catching out everybody and finding the back of the net.
3rd Min – Moretonville 2-1 up.
Again the game kicks off with neither team in control – Newport were making chances, “Nine Lives” shot just over the Cross bar on 15th min, in the 17th Min, Superfast went just wide with a cross cum shot following a great ball from “The Poet, Dylan” and on 20th Minute he made another blistering run but unfortunately the ball just slipped past the post.
Now, you know what I am gonna say – Blah blah blah, effort going forward, blah blah, pressure from Moretonville, blah blah they score.
Pants!!!
21st Min – Moretonville 3-1 up.
Time to dig deep – following kick off The Lions fair flew out of the stocks, some superb interplay between Lightening, superfast and The hottie resulted in a pass back to Lewis who took a great shot only for the keeper to save. - Gutted!!
This was followed by a period of real battling “Lionhearted” style football where everything was charged down, tackled hard or attacked resulting in some openings for the lions - 25th min saw Nine Live's go close, 27th Min found both the the hottie and Shayne go close but all to no avail.
With 2 mins left “Ave it”Aiden came on for “The Hottie” who had a back problem and even the introduction of the Man mountain couldn't change the lions luck.
In the last minute the lions created another chance when “Nine Lives” sweet left foot launched the ball toward the goal resulting in a bit of a scramble that unfortunately came to nothing and that, my young Padawans was that.
Final score - Moretonville 3 - Lions 1.
Man of the match - “The stone Mason” our rock in goal who was there when it counted. Well done my son!!
Summary:
A battling performance by the whole squad against a well drilled, big and talented side. We actually had enough chances to win the game and on another day I think we would have so the lads can hold their heads high and look forward with confidence to the re- match, our final game of the season this coming Tuesday/Wednesday - Lets go out on a win boys!!
Finally – Once again thanks to all the MADS for a great turnout, we take more to away matches than the Dons – Mind you the site of Kev Britnells legs in the sun was pretty – pretty blooming frightening according to Jo!!
Finally - well done to Darren and Kevin for marshalling the team so well and on a personal note can I wish Lightening Lewis all the best in his Grading this weekend, I know what he will have to go through – so good luck “Grasshopper”. Bassai Dai , Kanku Dai and Jion to you my old fruit!!
Finally – I owe “Elaine Cleans yer Drains Tucker” a glass of wine or 7 as her advice on what to do in the loo was invaluable – the Poo pump worked brilliantly!! Eat your heart out Dyno rod!!
Finally – Till next time my friends
Finally – Only joking.
Finally – he's gone!!
