Saturday, 13 March 2010
The Swans completed a double with this convincing Willen Road success.
Both side started the game off showing some good attacking football. But it was the Swans that had the better chances early on with a Darren Lynch header going over the cross bar. Then not long after Daren dykes had a good chance to score when he met a low cross from Matt Broomes, dykes scuffing the shot wide.
Spencer pushed forward but most of there attack was well defended by the Swans defence and Spencer also had a couple of edge of the area shots go wide.
The Swans took the lead after putting some pressure on Spencer past the half hour. Some great running down the left wing into the penalty area by Rob Tapp he passed the ball to dykes who’s shot was blocked, Rob Tapp hit the loose ball first time, the ball going through the keepers legs to put the Swans one up.
Spencer did managed to push the Swans back for the last 5 minutes of the first half but there pressure was to no avail.
Top scorer Darren Lynch added a 50th minute second when his hard first time shot hit the underneath of the cross bar and went into the back of the net!
Dean Buss added number three after 69 minutes when he met a cross with a pin point header.
Darren Lynch met a forward cross from Beefy with his typical trade mark header with 9 minutes to spare.
Rob McDonald came close to adding a 5th goal but his shot went wide of the goal.
To run salt in the wound Northampton Spencer had a player sent off for a second yellow card after he lunged at Rob McDonald from behind.
Just after Newport final goal Spencer had a golden opportunity to pull one back when the Swans stand in keeper was caught in no man land but the Spencer forward over hit the chasing ball for the ball to go out for a goal kick.
Spencer tried to get a goal back when their bald number 7 broke down the right side. He ran into the area for him to slice his shot wide of the mark.
