Berks & Bucks FA - Senior Trophy
Semi Final
Newport Pagnell Town 5 - 3 Sandhurst Town
Tuesday, 16 March 2010
The Swans reached their third successive final with this high scoring entertaining game!
Darren Lynch gave the home side an early grip on proceedings with a hat trick in the space of eight minutes giving Sandhurst no chance to respond with only 12 minutes played.
It took just four minutes for the experienced marksman to open his account when he received the ball just inside the area. He made no mistake in placing the ball into the top left of the goal. He followed up with another goal when he met a simple tap in, in front of the goalkeeper after eight minutes. The four minutes later he added his third when he managed to round the keeper for him to shoot from a tight angle into an open net!
The Swans came close to adding a fourth when Daren dykes shot went just over the cross bar. Then just after Daren Lynches hard shot from a Van Baston angle just went wide of the mark!
Constant running from Rob McDonald down the left almost rewarded him with a goal when he had a chance to score but he scuffed his shot wide.
Sandhurst responded with goals from Michael Murphy after 26 minutes when they won a dubious penalty which looked like a good tackle from Thorpey. Murphy successfully converting the penalty to give Sandhurst a glimmer of hope.
James Mepham score seven minutes later to put Sandhurst back into the tie scoring a cracking goal from a free kick, Bruce not seeing it until late.
A breathless first half ended with Richard Armstrong scoring a fourth Swans goal after 44 minutes when he met a cross with a neatly placed header into the top right hand corner.
Half time came with the score at 4-2, surely there can¡¦t be more goals?
Sandhurst came close to putting them back in the hunt when a shot from their forward sailed wide of the goal.
Daren dykes had the chance to wrap things up when he beat the offside trap, with just the goal keeper to beat his well placed shot was equally well saved.
Mepham kept Sandhurst back in touching distance with his second goal three minutes past the hour when his well hit shot found the back of the Newport net.
Newport clinched their final place two minutes from time through Darren dykes. His neatly lobbed shot over the stranded keeper making the score 5-3 and completing entertaining night of football.
Newport Pagnell meet Reading Town in the final for the second season running. Reading are run away leaders of the Hellenic Premier Division so they wont be a push over and the may prove to be a harder game than last season. But we will see. ļ
