Well what a night. On the evening of April 14th 2010 Newport Pagnell Town became the Senior Trophy Champions of Berks and Bucks with a 6-2 demolition of holders Reading Town. Having been runners up for the previous two season’s The Swans exacted sweet revenge for last years defeat with by far their best performance of the season.
Over 100 fans from Newport Pagnell made there way to Chesham to see this historic moment and the night will live in the memory for a long time.
The Swans were quick out of the blocks and 3-0 up inside the first 14 minutes. Darren Lynch got the ball rolling on nine minutes and it was 2-0 moments later when the manager's son Vinny added a second; before Hellenic League Premier Division side Reading could recover Rob Macdonald had added a third.
Dean Stevens gave Reading a glimmer of hope 10 minutes on and the Berkshire side might have thought their luck was in after Lynchy missed the chance to extend Newport's lead from the penalty spot. Reading's comeback was cut short however in the closing moments of the half as the Swans added two further goals to put the tie beyond them. Keith Williams hit number four on 40 minutes and Chelly Nkong made it 5-1 on the stroke of half time.
Stevens scored a second for Reading after 53 minutes, but Lynchy had the last word with Newport's sixth goal deep into stoppage time.
Manager Terry Shrieves said he was delighted, but that the celebrations will have to wait until they hopefully seal a second trophy in next weeks League Cup Final.
"When he play well as a team and take our chances there are not many sides at this level that can compete with us," he said.
"Everyone played well and it couldn't have gone much better. The wind was an advantage for us in the first half and them in the second, but we were clinical up front and they couldn't live with us."
