All,
Today the u12`s played away at Brookend Colts, a big thank you to them for getting the game on as their manager was stuck abroad for the week due to the volcanic ash and their pitch was closed down for the summer !!, getting back to the game, neither team seemed to be able to get the ball down and play proper football, but it was Newport who were able to take their chances, with goals coming from OMG Nathan (Right foot !!), Scott Leech (Header !!), Edgar & Jo, well done in getting the result that you needed, but you will need to put in better team performances than that.
See you all tomorrow at training.
Darren.

Match report: Brookend Colts v Lions U12's
First off, it was nice to see our war wounded Alex come to support his team complete with matching plasters on each leg, hope the recovery isn't going to take much longer!!! The team lined up with Mason in goal, Jamie, Callum, Tyler and Dylan in defence, Nathan, Reeve, Charlie and Lewis in midfield and up-front was Joe and Scott H. Warming up on the subs bench was Edgar(or should that be Diaby!!-thanks Wayne!), and Scott L.
The match started with the Lions having some early chances, but in the 4th min Brookend scored, but the goal was ruled offside. This unsettled the Lions and they appeared to be on the back foot for the next few minutes. It was at this point our frustrated young Lion on the sideline Alex declared 'I wish I was playing I could sort out the b****y defence!' After this the Lions stepped up a gear and the chances started stacking up :
11th min Lewis puts a cross in and Scott H's header goes just over the cross bar
12th min Charlie fires in a shot from 15yrds out and the keeper is forced into a save
13th min Joe's inch perfect cross into Lewis and again the Brookend keeper scrambles the save
14th min Scott H puts a great cross into the box which eventually comes out to Nathan who fires it into the top left corner with his right foot!!! 0-1.
19th min Reeve, following up his performance of last week was battling away in midfield, clears the ball out to Nathan then back into Scott H forcing the keeper into yet another save.
20th min and the fortunes of the Lions changed as Brookend leveled up the score 1-1. In the period that followed Brookend and the Lions were pretty even and both had chances, Dylan, Tyler and Jamie were being called upon to protect Mason from a growing in confidence Brookend striker. Callum was pushing up to free the ball up to the midfield. At this point we saw Scott H and Charlie make way for Edgar and Scott L. The time spent on the bench for both of them had obviously fired them up as both boys were involved in the play as soon as they got on the pitch.
25th min Joe had another chance cleared
27th min Tyler and Dylan battling at the back are able to clear the ball up to Scott L and Lewis who put the Brookend keeper under more pressure.
29th min Jamie and Nathan worked the ball up the pitch, Nathan putting in a great cross and Scott L gets his head to it!!(twice in two weeks!!! Is this becoming a habit?!) 1-2
Before the finish of the half Joe has a shot which goes inches wide, and Reeve puts in a great ball to Nathan and Joe again has a shot saved.
Half Time 1-2
Second half started as the first finished with Edgar and Scott L getting the ball into Joe, who lays it back out to Scott who chips it into the box and the keeper saves.
4th min Lions then win a series of corners and throw-ins which Brookend manage to clear.
8th min and Brookend have a chance forcing Mason to make a stretched save, going out for a corner which Brookend put wide.
10th min Lewis lays a lovely ball into Edgar and he pops it into the back of the net. Well done Edgar!! 1-3
We then see Scott H and Charlie come back on for Reeve and Dylan.
14th Brookend win a free kick which the Lions clear for them to win another free kick which gets cleared again.
15th Scott H, Lewis and Joe win a corner, Edgar's shot is then saved, as is Callum's
17th Brookend break and Tyler and Scott L do their best to stop the shot, and it bounces on the top of the cross bar and goes out.
19th min Charlie quite unexpectedly finds himself sprawled out on the floor after being pushed over and wins a free kick. Joe smashes it in but the keeper saves. Nathan also has a chance and chips the ball in but the keeper saves.
26th min Brookend keeper mis kicks his goal kick and the ball comes out to Joe at 25yrds out who fires it over the keeper 1-4
28th min another free kick to Brookend and Mason yet again saves.
The last couple of minutes sees Tyler having a shot saved then Nathan and Scott H having chances. In the last seconds Brookend break and Scott L runs in front of the striker blocking his shot and Mason makes the save.
Full Time 1-4
It wasn't the prettiest game to watch and the frustration was very evident at times, but we lose as a team and win as a team, and this, on paper, was a good win!! Onto Bedford for our next mid-week fixture good luck boys.......and Darren!!
