League Division 3
Brookfield Rangers 4 v 6 NPTFC Lions
10 out of 10
The sun was back with us today making it a pleasant morning to trek over to Shenley Brook End for possibly our penultimate league game of this winning season.
It was great to see wee Seb return today after a month or so resting his injuries of which we hope can be dealt with carefully so we can see him back to full strength next season.
Anyway the teams lined up for the usual roll call but this time there were no smiley faces as the home side looked determined to be the first team to beat us in the league.
The first 15 or so minutes were scrappy as it looked like our minds were on something else and the home side took full advantage. On 17 minutes they grabbed a break away goal that looked like Jack had shinned it into his own net but he was adamant at half time that the striker scored the goal.
In a ground hog day moment from last week there was barely a minute gone after conceding when we drew things level. Now being a good samaritan I was returning a stray ball from the match adjacent to ours when we equalised but I'm reliably informed that Rhys hammered the ball in from the edge of the box so apologies Rhys but I'm sure it was a cracker.
Our defence was being tested on occasions and Kiron had to turn a couple of shots round the post and Lewis, Jack and Alex were having to dig in to keep the score level.
Fortunately our top goal scorer "Tenacious D" then crashed in a loose ball in the box to take us into the lead before he tapped in an excellent cross from MOM Mickey to finish the half in front.
Half Time 1-3
The half time team talk concentrated on some witty banter and fun stuff for a change as the challenges being set by the team manager looked like they were getting boring so we will park them until the 2010/11 season starts!
Connor and Seb joined the play and no sooner had we kicked off when "Cool Hand Connor" grabbed our 4th and his 8th of the campaign as the ball hit either his backside or his thigh, not sure which but the end result was a bulging net.
Gurveer and Mickey tested the keeper at least 2-3 times in the next few minutes but he was standing up to the test as many keepers have tried this season.
Goal of the game came next as our tap In's were replaced with a 20+ yarder from "Cool Hand Connor" who ensured he had enough space before unleashing a thunderbolt into the sack.
Our lead was increased further a minute later as Mickey drove a low ball between many legs into the net to give us a 5 goal lead.
Some more changes were made now as Basi, Hamish and Alex rejoined the game and various positions were changed which may have lead to the home team finishing strongly.
Fair play to Brookfield, they had some indifferences in the first half as players appeared to become frustrated however they finish the game strongly as they grabbed 3 late goals. A couple of these could have been avoided but anybody could forgive us for switching off after winning the league last week and for being 5 goals clear.
Final whistle blew and our 10th straight league win was notched but with a damp squib ending conceding the late goals.
Our last game should be next week at home to the admirable Brackley Athletic team who also have a 10 out of 10 record however theirs is slightly different to ours.
We shall wait to see what the league will do with the 5 times canceled fixture against Old Stratford but who cares really if the season ends next week it has been a belter!
Team: Kiron Das, Lewis Brewer, Jack Gardner, Alex King, Mickey Siegieda, Basi Combes, Hamish Bull (c) Rhys Clark, David Shannon, Seb Carter, Connor Ryan, Gurveer Barang
