League Division 3
NPTFC Lions 4 v 1 Old Stratford
The Invincibles...............but better!
I have a colleague who asks me every Friday if my "Kiddies" have a game in the morning and then he checks how they got on every Monday morning. Yesterday I mentioned that there was a possibility that my older team could win their 11th straight match in what would now be their final league game of the season.
"Ah, that's great" he said, "just like 6 years ago when my lot won the premiership and were tagged as the "Invincibles" Now i can't mention his lot on this forum as the censor thing deletes the expletive but if you ask Paul Brewer he can tell you who they are!
Now I may be a tad biased here but my lot (U11 Lions not the team to the left!) are slightly better than the above mentioned team as the scoreline at the top of the page confirms we won the league without dropping a single point after todays efforts!
The morning was a scorcher and it had a real end of season feel to it as MAD's arrived in sandals and sun bins and the lads were more interested in larking about and signing Skipper Bull's shiny new football as a memento of his time in charge.
There was a match played out though and it wasn't the best really as Old Stratford only arrived with 9 players so we agreed to play 8 a side to give them a sub to roll on and off due to the heat. Cue 4 miserable faces as i read out the starting team with more players sitting on the bench.
Brief summary:
Skipper Bull tapped in the first on 8 mins with his right foot for his 12th goal of the season.
Rhys finished off a slick 4 man one touch passing move on 15 minutes to grab his 20th goal of the season. This impressed the watching FA coach who was stood next to me this morning making me very proud! (and no Kev I haven't done anything wrong before you ask!)
Basi steered in his 12th of the campaign as he made space before side footing into the far corner.
Half time 3-0
No half time challenges today, not really any point, we just signed the skippers ball and decided who would replace Kiron in goal for the last 10 as he played his last game for the side today
Anyway Seb scored the goal of the game with 7 mins of the 2nd half gone as the away keeper was scrambling back to his line Seb deftly lobbed the ball over his head into the empty net, Class!
Fair play to Old Stratford, in a rare forray into our box they scored a scrappy goal to take something out of the game.
Many changes were now being made with defenders going up front, strikers just wandering about somewhere in the middle moaning and the usual wide men taking up the defending duties, oh and the dependable keeper Kiron moving into an attacking midfield role leaving Connor to take on the gloves.
Nothing else happened after this as the heat took it's toll and the game fizzled out until the best referee we will ever have blew for full time.
So Kiron "The Cat" Das, Lewis "Head a Brick" Brewer, Alex "You wouldn't argue with him, not even over the phone" King, Jack "The clown" Gardner, Hamish "Skipper" Bull, Mickey "Twist & Shout" Siegieda, Basi "Endless Running" Combes, David "Tenacious D" Shannon, Rhys "Nitrous Boots" Clarke, Connor "Cool Hand" Ryan, Gurveer "Sick skills" Barang, Seb "Tiny Terrior" Carter have won the league with 11 straight wins (Would have been 12 had Brackley not given up rewarding us with the free 3 points)
Mixed emotions at the full time whistle as a win is a win and a championship is a championship but with 3 popular and loyal players making their last appearance for the team today this match reporter had a tear in his eye.
We will say our final goodbyes at the league presentation event so at least they head off to compete in other sports with another medal.
Another summer of recruitment now awaits as we head towards the off side law and massive goals next season.
Thanks for reading this mindless drivel most weeks.
