All,
The u13`s were in action today against Mk City, and were aiming to get one over on the league leaders who stuffed us 5-2 just 3 weeks earlier, anyway, as you can see we have amended that wrong to put in a good performance and draw against one of the leagues top sides, great team work and attitude saw us through, what a good team performance, good luck to MK City who are still challenging for the title, also both goals today were scored by Scott Howkins and Charlie Tofield, and both were headers !!.
Congratulations to Mark and the u14`s on winning the league today, well done.
Darren.

Match report - MK City Tigers 1 – 2 Lions
What a game, so good even Arsenic Wenger would have seen it, had Rooney played in it he would have grabbed the camera, smiled and bellowed “I love you all, especially my mum” down it and if Ferguson was manager he would have invited the BBC up to his offices for a glass of wine such was the goodly feeling inside after watching this superb display of quality football from the lions, and in fairness the Tigers too.
If you can bear with me, or prefer to be bare with me, whatever, I don't mind but if you can hang on a bit I shall try to set the scene. MK City Tigers are right up there at the top of the division, the team possesses two stupendously quick, high quality, tall and fast forwards, backed up by a more than decent team of footballers behind whilst the Lions comprise really great footballers throughout who have a fitness level equal to any team and a “go get em” spirit to match. – The question being asked today was "could we contain these two forwards and make headway ourselves through our quality passing game? – and the answer was yes!! (with a little bit of no in there as well).
Looking at Jo-Note takers scribblings (thanks Miss) I read that we started well – To be honest that is utter Tosh – well utter rubbish anyway as “Tosh” was playing left back. In fact I think we started started ruddy marvellously, with the midfield of “Charley Farley” Holman-Patey, Edgar “Diarby” Adekoyah, “Superfast” Shayne Irving, Archie “Angela” Rippen and Joe “President” Kennedy all involved in neat, accurate and telling passing interplay straight from the kick off. In the 6th Minute the Tigers had a long range shot saved without drama by the excellent lions Goalie Sonny “Braveheart” Clayton before the back four of Charlie “Peanuts” Brown, the aforementioned Jamie “Tosh” Latarche, Alex “TNT” Tucker and “The Poet”, Dylan Cunningham played out of defence to build a Lions move that resulted in a firm effort on the tigers goal from Angela.
Wow, what a start and it continued on in the same vein.
The 12th minute saw “Superfast” shoot just over the bar, 14th minute found “Braveheart” in action again, the 18th minute we had a corner cleared and tigers raced up our end to be thwarted once again by “Braveheart” - End to end stuff and you just new a goal was on its way, but which team would score it?
Well,I have deliberately not mentioned one player so far, as ploughing his usual, highly effective furrow up front was Charlie “Chazzer” Tofield who'd been working his proverbial's off, hustling and harrying and getting into the positions that matter and it was no surprise when it was “Chazzer” that provided the opening goal on 21 minutes and from his head too. Great goal Charlie
21 Mins, Tigers 0 – 1 Lions
From the re start we came under immense pressure and the performances of the “Poet”, “TNT”, “Peanuts” and “Tosh”in defence were just outstanding in keeping the Tigers out as was the continuing heroics of “braveheart” the keeper but eventually in the 31st minute they managed to equalise.
31 Mins, Tigers 1 – 1 Lions
Did the boys heads go down – oh no they continued their tremendous play right up to half time.
With another mahoosive MADS turnout it was noticeable how we all took a deep breath on the whistle at half time – what a super game of proper football, great passing and super play from the lions with the tigers being very fast and direct at breaking out of defence, just great.
There had been a few changes through the first half, “Angela” had come off to be replaced by Nathan “Nine Live” Clarke who quite remarkably hasn't been in a car accident or broken a bone all season while for the second half “Diarby” came off and soon had a bag of ice on his buttocks!! No, he hadn't had a vindaloo last night, just a muscle pull in the Maximus Glutinous I think. His replacement was Scottie “The Hottie” Howkins who entered the fray playing at centre mid.
Second half – right away the Lions put the pressure on and within the 1st minute “Nine Lives” had a shot at goal go just wide and in the 2nd half “Braveheart" was called into action at our end – it was clear the 2nd half was going to continue in the end to end fashion as the 1st half – brilliant.
The 8th minute found the Tigers forwards slice through the lions like the proverbial not knife through butter but he shot over the bar, then again on 11th minutes the Tigers hit the upright but the lions were not out of it – on the 14th minute “Nine Lives” shot just wide, and just after “The President” went just wide and then Nine Lives blasted a shot to force a save at the near post. Then, as The lions applied pressure they were caught out on the break and the Tigers went 2-1 up.
19 Mins, Tigers 2 – 1 Lions
Time to dig deep and the boys did just that coming back at the tigers and applying some pressure of their own before a couple of changes took place as “Angela” re entered the fray along with Scott “Bites yer Legs” Leech to replace “Chazzer”and “Peanuts” respectfully. Somehow I had also forgotten that “Diarby” was back on the pitch and as the Lions pushed forwards it was he whose excellent header hit the bar from a Nine lives corner, So Close!!!
More pressure from the lions with “The Hottie” now up front hassling away and again in the 28th Min we were caught on the break and for the umpteenth time Braveheart saved the day, fantastic stuff.
Back up the Tigers end and in the 31st minute Angela battled past 3 tigers defenders to get to the by-line where he clipped the ball in for it to be met by “The Hotties” head which directed it expertly into the corner of the Tigers net to equalise. Great Goal my Son!!
31 Mins, Tigers 2 – 2 Lions.
That was about it – apart from two free kicks, one to the Tigers that went wide and one to the lions which came to nowt and so a great game came to an end.
Final Score - Tigers 2 – 2 Lions.
Breathtaking game, great spirit, tremendous effort and above all real quality football played by the Lions and proving once again that on the day they can compete with any team in the league, just brilliant stuff.
The Tigers did more than play there part, a very good team that will surely be there or thereabouts at the top of the league come the end of the season – good luck guys.
Managers man of the match – what a difficult decision with so many excellent performances out there today. Everybody not only put in a shift but made great passes, telling tackles, and remained cool however this week the recipient of the award was “The Poet”, Dylan Cunningham for his death or glory performance in defence. Well done Dylan.
Finally, well done Darren manager and Owen Assistant, the smile on your faces said it all at the end and also well done to Jeremiah Cunningham for running the line again.
Also get well “Cool Hand” Callum!!
So, two games to go – Tattenhoe Magics at home next week and away to Moretonville to finish the season off – Play like you did today and we should finish on a high!!
Come on you lions !!!
Word of warning - I saw a couple of not very nice, short horror films about deformed ducks the other day - it was a double bill.
Cheers
Paul H
