Chiltern League Div 1 – Under 16s
Match Report: 10th April 2011:
Newport Pagnell Town 2 v 2 Bedford Town A
Half-time: 1 – 1
Newport Squad: Jack Allen, Brandon Banda, Tom Blake, Steve Blood, Alex Collard, Jack Croxford, Matty Cullis, Kevin Feldman, Luke Parker, Liam Scott, Dan Shaw, Mitchell Tofts, Jack Westbrook.
Newport started and ended their latest league game well scoring from set pieces in the 5th and 89th minutes but between the two goals they struggled to create any clear cut chances from open play.
Newport took an early lead when a corner from the right was half cleared and Westy fired home from 10 yards.
Apart from the goal, the visitors restricted Newport to a few long range efforts that were dealt with easily by Bedford's keeper. The closest the home side came to scoring was when Tom fired a snapshot against the bar from the edge of the box.
At the other end Newport were undone when a Bedford midfield player poked a ball through a crowd of players on the edge of the box for a team-mate to time his run well and slot home from close range.
Half-time: Newport 1 – 1 Bedford
Nothing much changed in the second half.
Kevin and Liam both made penetrating runs into the box but failed to get a shot away.
Blakey continued to chase lost causes and was justifiably disappointed to find that no one had backed him up when he managed to hook the ball back into the box.
Newport were lacking width and ideas and were simply not moving the ball quickly enough to cause a decent Bedford side any problems.
It was no great surprise when the visitors took the lead with a speculative effort from outside the box that somehow sneaked past Dan as he dived to his left.
Boothy went to three at the back to try to get back into the game but still they created very little.
But with time running out Newport snatched a late equaliser when Liam headed in from an acute angle from a left wing free kick.
Full-time: Newport 2 – 2 Bedford
Come on Newport!
