F.A. Cup
Preliminary Round
Newport Pagnell Town 1 Thame United 1
Saturday, 03 September 2011
Newport found Thame a harder nut to crack than previous Hellenic opponents Witney.
The swans came close to scoring the opening goal when the Thame keeper had to make a good save from Stupples shot.
John Thorpe kept Thame out when Josh miss judged a catch, Thorpey clearing the danger away from the goal line.
Thame took an eleventh minute advantage through Dan West when he met a cross unmarked to header past Josh McAdoo.
The inform Thame keeper then had to make another good save but this time from Luigi Rocco then not long after Daren dykes shot was forced wide.
Thame had another chance just before the break but the resulting shot sailed over the cross bar.
The second half saw a better improved Swans side. With the introduction of Richard Armstrong seem to improve the possession in midfield. Also with Vinnie Shrieves coming on part way through the second half gave the Swans more option up front. This was shown when Vinnie had to cracking shots, the first was neatly saved by the Thame keeper then the second which was a volley just cleared the cross bar.
The hard working Dom Lawless had a good chance saved after his pace got him into the penalty area. Then the same players saw a nice curling shot bounce up off the cross bar.
The Swans had to wait until six minutes from time for Dominic Lawless to earn them a replay with an equalising goal.
Then a few minutes from time Newport were denied a penalty after a Thame defender deliberately handled the ball. As the cross came in he appeared to palm the ball away above his head. Unfortunately the Ref and the linesman didn’t see the incident.
Thame almost made the Swans pay for a lack of attention when they caught Newport out on the break but the Thame forward shot just went wide of the goal.
1-1 it stayed and a replay down at Thame Utd it was to be, next Tuesday 6th September, KO 7:45pm.
