All,
The Lions were back in action this wknd against Cranfield in the cup, the Lions won well, but Cranfield proved to be tough and worthy opponents, well done to Santino, on his debut, which was capped with a fine goal and a great assist too.
Good luck to Cranfield for the remainder of the season.
Darren.

Match report, Cranfield 1 – 6 Newport lions U14.
Quick report this week as I am low on creative juices this evening - I guess what i need is some alcahoic juices and i feel sure the words would flow easier – that must be the problem!!
Anyhoo – the boys lined up against Div 2 Cranfield in the league cup today and for the first half and while the sun was out they really made hay and soon developed a comfortable lead. This was due to some excellent play right across the field but especially down the right flank with some truly delightful one touch passing involving a host of players resulting in “The Poet” Dylan Cunningham scoring first.
This was soon followed by a fantastic build up and eventual through ball from new signing by Santino Ciliberti, (from now on known as “San the Man”) for Nathan “Nine Lives” Clarke to latch onto and finish superbly in off the far post. 2-0
A penalty to Cranfield followed before Charlie ”Chazzer” Tofield took it upon himself to win the ball, progress forward at pace and finally lob the keeper in stupendous style to make it 3-1 – what a classy goal – well done Charlie.
Next up was Joe “President Kennedy” whose individual hard work and pressure resulted in the keeper making an unfortunate faux pas and thus leave the ball at "the presidents" magically skillful feet. He utilised these deadly weapons to make it 4-1. Sadly for the Cranfield keeper he was to do much the same soon after as the duracell powered “Chazzer” finished off well to make it 5-1 and put the match truly out of reach for Cranfield.
But - Cranfield's heads didn't go down and they were unlucky to have a tremendous long range goal disallowed for off side so despite their efforts at half time it remained 5-1.
Half time and as the Mads bathed in the sun we discussed various topics like the Presidents (senior) throbbing hands, how loverly the 1st ladies coffee was this morning and of course just how life is in general following the passing away of Steve Jobs. I pointed out that first we had Bob hope go, then Johnny cash and now Steve jobs, that's it I said, no hope, no cash and now no jobs – life is ard at the bottom!
Second half and numerous changes in personnel had taken place over the first 35 mins and also at half time at the behest of Darren manager - but the question was would Cranfield fold and the Lions go onto get another Five? As it happens life got very tough for the lions in the second half as Cranfield really set about the game with gusto, playing some excellent football and doing very well to restrict the lions to just one more goal – and absolute individual cracker from “San the Man” to make it 6-1 and that's how the game ended.
Final Score, Cranfield 1 – 6 U14 Lions.
Today the Squad comprised Sonny “Braveheart” Clayton in goal, Scott “Bites yer legs” Leech, Simone “Ballotelli” Datsamor, Nathanial “Nat King Cole” Beecher, “Nine Live's” “The Poet”, “President Kennedy” Archie “Angela” Rippen, “Superfast” Shayne Irving, Scottie “The Hottie” Howkins, “Chazzer”, “San The Man” “Arsene” Adegbenger Meranda, Callum “Cool Hand” Quinn-Hudson, Charlie “Peanuts” Brown, and last, but far from least Edgar “Diarby” Adekoyah all of which played and all of whom were superb – well done boys!!
Summary:
A good performance from all the squad today, at times the lads played some exquisite stuff but at times it got a bit scrappy and all up in the air and faffy, especially in the second half. This had a lot to do with Cranfield's valiant efforts so Full Credit to Cranfield for putting up such a great battling and footballing display – we all wish you well for the rest of the season!
Finally a big get well soon to Alex “TNT” Tucker – hope to see you soon!!
Finally, finally well done to Darren manager and Coach Owen on a good result all round and of course both still being allowed to stay in the same field as the team at the end of the match!!
Cheers
Paul
