UCL Premier Division
Irchester United 0 Newport Pagnell Town 1
Saturday, 29 October 2011
Irchester's six match unbeaten run came to an end as the high riding Swans emerged victorious at Alfred Street.
A Dean Buss goal after fourteen minutes won the points for Newport.
The Swans were on top for most of the game and had better chances to score the opening goal. This started with Daren dykes when his close range shot just clipped the cross bar.
The Goal came from persistent pressure from the Swans when John Thorpe met a cross from a Corner to head against the cross bar. Dean buss was there to gather the rebound and power past the Irchester keeper.
Irchester then grab a hold of the game for 10 minutes when they forced 4 corners on the trot. The Swans defence handling the pressure well though Josh had to make one good save.
dykes sent a curling cross which went just wide of the goal when he picked up a half clearance from the Irchester defence.
Irchester didn’t create much in the 2nd half but did try and push the swans back but they were not having it and frustration crept into the Irchester camp. This was shown when Richard Armstrong was fouled, then Shan was late with a tackle immediately afterwards but his foul was called. The Irchester number 3 deliberately stood on Shan as he got up yet nothing was done. Free kick to Irchester.
Then we saw the best save of the season from the Irchester keeper as some how he made a one handed save from Dom Lawlless turning the ball around the post for a corner.
Vinny Shrieves just missed from a diving header and dykes shot over the cross bar.
Lawless had a great opportunity but was pushed wide but his shot went across the face of the goal and was cleared.
The game became scrappy at the end but the Swans earned all three points.
