FA Vase Round 2
NEWPORT PAGNELL 1 -2 ENFIELD 1983
Goal Scorer - Williams
Saturday 17th November 2012
Newport Pagnell bowed out of the FA Vase for another year after succumbing to deafeat at the hands of Enfield 1893.
The Swans couldn’t emulate last year’s journey where they reached the furthest they have got in the tournament eventually losing to Ashington in the 4th Round.
Town were unfortunate not to come away with at least a replay in a match of limited opportunities.
The three goals came in the second half Keith Williams scoring for The Swans and Neil Hughes and Tom Chapman grabbing the strikes for the visitors.
Hughes grabbed the opener from the spot after McAdoo brought the Enfield Striker down which he just about converted even though McAdoo got his hands to the ball.
Darren Lynch’s men were not behind for long bringing the match back to level terms; Williams drilled his free kick into the net form.
Even though after the home side brought the game all square; they were team creating the majority of the chances however one moment of lack of concentration cost them. Chapman made the most of the opportunity steering his shot out of the reach of McAdoo and into the bottom left hand corner.
The Swans made a blistering start to the match Rob Tapp delivered a superb ball into the area which Joel McCormick diverted past Ashley Harris in the Enfield but unfortunately for McCormick who presumed to be in an offside position.
The match was scrappy match throughout with chances hard to come by. McCormick wasted a great chance pushing his shot a whisker past the post.
Enfield struggled to break the Newport back line during the first half with their only clear cut chance coming from Aaron Scott heading just over the bar.
The visitors came out all guns blazing and nearly broke the deadlock, Chet Johnson saw himself one on one but McCadoo came to the rescue for Town saving with his feet.
Time was dwindling down but before Enfield got their killer blow Newport should of taken the lead Dom Lawless caught onto a loose ball and only had Harris to beat but he was denied by the outside of the post.
Town went all out to find that all important goal to send the game to a replay but the visitors held on to go through to the next round.
