Newport Pagnell 1 – 4 Spalding Utd - UCL Prem.
Sat - 02/02/13
Goal : Watson
This was always going to be a tough game for The Swans against title favourites. Spalding Utd were presently sitting second in the table and with an excellent run in the Vase plus three other cups this was always going to be a big ask!
So when Newport started so well and took an early lead we thought an upset could be on the cards! But Spalding tough physical approach was to help them win the game.
And it was Gary King followed up his Vase double strike with a decisive hat trick as Spalding made a winning return to league action.
Newport took the lead through recent recruit Danny Watson after 23 minutes when he took the ball around the keeper, but unfortunately the lead proved to ne short lived.
Dan Cotton levelled for Spalding after 27 minutes and eight minutes later King turned smartly in the box to fire the Tulips in front.
Despite various attacks from Newport their final ball was to let them down and they could not get a decent cross into the box.
Then King put the game further out of reach scoring his second goal of the game.
The second half saw some better defending from the home side and for mush of it Spalding didn’t really get many chances to score. The Swans were more positive in attack and saw two good chances missed, one saved by the keeper and the other scrambled away by the Spalding defence.
To rub salt in the wounds Spalding had the last say when King completed his hat trick with two minutes to play when the ball wasn’t cleared quick enough and some confusion in defence.
