Newport Pagnell 1 - 1 Peterborough North Star - UCL Prem.
Saturday 16th Feb
A strange game where the Swans didnt really get the run of the green in. Newport had quite a few chances to score in both halfs but luck and a lot of decisions were on the wrong side for Newport. But it was Beefy that saved the day for the Swans with a sweet left footed shot from a free kick!
The Swans started the game extremely well with some great passing and good attacking Football. Their first chance came when Ash Farmer stormed into the area but his shot flew over the cross bar.
The longer the game went on the more scrappy it became. The Ref saw it fit to punish various fouls with cards and also awarded free kicks to tackles which I saw was fair which desrupted the game a tad.
The one yellow card was given to the goal hero Beefy when he was adjudged to have fouled the player. Claims of a Dive from most people were voiced by the PNS player, the same player who got told off for diving a few minute before!
The PNS number 10 did create a few problems down the left but in the end dealt with by Beefy & Thorpey.
The other attempts on goal by Newport were either dealt with by the PNS keeper or went over the cross bar.
The second half became even more scrappy which also saw PNS get away with pushing from behind and controversy!
The Swans came close to scoring when Rob Tapp picked up a re-bound to shoot just outside the area. His hard shot was well saved by the PNS keeper.
Despite more pressure from Newport they could not find a way through.
Then disaster as a rare PNS attack saw them awarded a peanlty after a clumsy challenge. There number 11 converting the Pen.
Then the Swans task was made harder after Ash Farmer was red carded, at the time we were all bemused by this but later found out it was for a head butt !
The Swans in true fashion rallied and applied the pressure! This almost paid off when PNS only half cleared for Armstrong to shoot, the ball blatantly blocked by a PNS on the line with his hands. Everyone seemed to see it apart from the ref and linesman!
Newports just rewards came when they won a free kick outside the area. Up stepped Keith Beefy Williams to take the free kick which had one out come.......GOAL ! Justice after the pressure!
The Swans were not going to leave it at that and through Watson, Cunnife and Armstrong various chances were denied by the PNS keeper and defence.
PNS did get back into the game and at time tested Josh in goal and put the Newport under some pressure.
The Swans last chances came from a corner which seemed to fall behind the players in the penalty area, PNS managing to scramble the ball away!
My Summary of the game........5 Newport players booked (Including one sent off) and only 1 PNS player booked through challengers not so dissimilar to some PNS fouls. I also felt that that the Swans didnt have the run of the luck in the game. I guess some games go like that.............(Moan over).....
