Newport Pagnell 2 – 3 Wellingborough – UCL Prem.
19/02/13
The Swans get punished for missed opportunities in a un-reflective scoreline.
The Doughboys picked up a fourth win in five matches to boost their battle to beat the drop to snatch all 3 much needed points.
Jon Mitchell gave Wellingborough the lead after seven minutes when he rounded Josh to plact he ball into and empty net. This was after a blistering start by the away side and this was only one of two chances they had in the first half!
The Swans pushed forward and for at least 15 minute penned Wellingorough back, but they could not find the back of the net. Watson forced a good save out of the Dough boys keeper then Ash farmer shot just cleared the cross bar.
The Swans persistence paid off on the half hour mark when Ash Farmer did find a way through when he was passed the ball just inside the area, his neatly placed from a tight angle finding the far right corner of the goal levelling the game for the Swans.
The Swans were then denied a penalty when Ash Farmer was up ended with a late tackle then just afterwards the Swans did score but Watson was ruled offside!
Again the Swans came close to taking the lead into the break when the keeper was beat but the resulting shot was cleared off the line by a Dough Boys defender to keep things level.
It remained 1-1 at Half Time.
The second half the Swans carried on how the left the first half and pressured Wellingborough but as time went on the more frustrated the lads became!
Danny Watson forced a great save out of the Dough Boys keeper from a free kick then a hard shot by Tappy was blocked by the defence.
The Swans were then punished for their misses when Todd Sawko scored on 70th minute when his cross eluded everyone and just sailed into the Newport goal. I think it was a cross not a shot……
Then 14 minutes later Newport were caught out on a counter, Mitchell scored on the 84th minute and scoring his second on the night to put Wellingborough 3-1 up in a game that the Swans more or less controlled!!
Danny Watson cut the deficit a minute from the end but it came too late to earn Newport any reward from the contest.
The finally Danny Baker was given his marching orders after a late tackle on the Wellingborough forward.
It was to be ‘one of those games’ as Newport did have control of the game and at time penned Wellingborough back. Various chances and shooting opportunities were missed and never really had much luck in the game. Credit to Wellingborough as they took their chances and also I thought the Dough Boys keeper had a really good game as he made some great saves and also commanded the Wellingborough penalty area extremely well gathering most of the crosses Newport put into the area.
Bring on new boys Shpershed…..
