Newport Pagnell 3 - 2 Desborough - UCL Prem.
April 6th 2013.
It's now twelve visits to Willen Road without a win for Desborough, but they gave the Swans a few late scares with a second half fightback this time round.
Desborough started brightly and were almost rewarded with a goal early on but the near shot went inches wide.
The Swans soon grabbed control of the game and Chances were created with Watson, Farmer and Cunife on the end of them.
The Swans had to call Captain fantastic into action again when he made an amazing clearance from the goal mouth after the Ar Tarn number 7 rounded Josh to shoot into and open goal., Thorpey in the right place at the right time.
Newport grabbed the initiative with two goals in a minute late in the first half and a 3rd 10 minute later! The first was a brilliant bit of play by Daren dykes leading up to his goal when he dribbled the ball into the area, beating the left back to shoot past the keeper to score Newports first goal of the and his 96th goal for Newport. The 2nd came as I was posting the first goal on the Facebook group. Jarod Cuniffe receiving a pass just inside the area for him to shoot pass the keeper. Then 10 minutes later Danny Watson added a 3rd goal from a cross which he neatly met with a header to head into the top right hand corner of the goal.
Despite pressure from Desborough they couldnt find a way past the Newport defence.
The second half proved to be the away side Desboroughs half when their fight back began deep into the second half but first the Swans had other ideas. Newport created chances but themselves could not find the back of the net. Ash Farmer had a great chance to score after hard work got him into a good goal scoring position making the keeper make a good save.
But Desborough themselves had other ideas and reduced the deficit through Luke Churchill after 57 minutes giving Josh no chance scoring from close range. .
Daren dykes almost added his 2nd of the game when he broke down the left side but his curling shot went just over the cross bar.
John Thorpe received his marching orders after being shown a second yellow card of the game for reasons that still baffle me. I believe the first foul wasn't a yellow card in the first place and the second wasn't as bad as the first.
Kevin Byrne reduced the difference scoring a second for the visitors with an 86th minute penalty after Josh fouled him in the area.
Desborough came very close to getting an equaliser but the Ar Tarn forward shot wide on the edge of the 6 yards box!!!
The Swans suffered some pressure from Desborough late on but managed to hold on to all 3 points.
