St Ives 1 - 3 Newport Pagnell - UCL Prem
Goals - Jarod Cunniffe x3.
Newport kept up their pursuit of a top four finish as they ended the Saints' title hopes at Westwood Road.
Cunniff struck again after 46 and 47 minutes to settle the contest speedily when the action resumed.
Ex-Newport man Dom Lawless took his season's goal tally to 29 with a 53rd minute home reply from close range, but it was too little too late to prevent the championship being Holbeach bound.
St Ives started the stronger team with pushing the Swans back but the lads defended well and restricted the home side to very little chances in a game that St Ives really struggled to put their game together.
The Swans took the lead through Jarod Cuniffe on 34 minutes when he met a low cross from the right side and making no mistake firing pass the keeper into the net. Cuniffe had another great chance to score when he burst into the area, his shot going just wide of the goal.
The Swans survived a couple of late attacks from the home side but the St Ives forwards shooting was wide of the mark.
It wasnt long onto the second half before Newport added the second (and a third goal) and Jarod Cuniffe second goal of the game when Daren dykes rushed into the area who passed to Jarod for him to place into the goal. Then while I was posting about this goal on Facebook Jarod decided to add his third goal, his Hat trick! Jarod taking the ball down the right side neatly finishing under the ST Ives keeper. Two goals in a minute just after the break on the 46th and 47th minute.
St Ives had a couple more chances to score but their shooting was way off target . Their only goal came from a corner when Ex Newport Player Dom Lawless met a cross with a neatly placed header into the top right corner of the goal.
Newly introduced Jack Croxford had a good chance to shhot but scuffed his shot which was comfortably saved by the St Ives keeper.
Josh made a great save late on to palm pout for a corner, then caught a couple of half shots from the St Ives attack.
One of the best performances of the season by the Swans and including brilliant defending by the Newport Defence (including the man in pink, Josh) reducing St Ives to very little chances. The wrose we can finish now is 7th but the best is 4th, the latter pending on results going for us. Quorn, Deeping and Huntingdao all need to loose a couple of game in the run in.
Newport: Josh McAdoo, Massimo Lagioia (Matt Broomes), Keith Williams, John Thorpe, Dave Baker, Scott Mulkern, Ash Farmer (Sam Maude), Richard Armstrong, Daren dykes, Jared Cunniff, Steve Brooks (Jack Croxford).
