Newport Pagnell 8 City Colts Eagles 2Newport Pagnell kicked off with Jason playing it wide to Omar on the right which placed immediate pressure on the City Colts defence. City Colts responded and forced a corner at the Newport end, but Harry was on hand and cleared to Jason who sprinted the full length of the pitch forcing a corner for Newport Pagnell.
5 minutes had passed when Daniel put in a strong tackle and set Alex free who went on to win another corner for Newport Pagnell. This pressure eventually paid off when Jason and Tom combined to find Harry in the box who took control of the ball and scored.
Newport continued to apply the pressure with notable performances from Omar and Jason forcing the City Colts keeper to make two excellent saves. Daniel swept up the ball in defence and played a long through ball on 15 minutes to find Harry who confidently tucked the ball away to make it 2-0 to Newport.
Another 6 minutes passed and Alex found a nice touch to set Jason free and he took full advantage dribbling the ball into the box to score a well deserved goal. 23 minutes into the match and Callum came close with a right footed effort.
The Newport coach made a number of changes and the side looked fresh with Scott again feeding Callum who went on a blistering run and it was only a top drawer save from the City Colts keeper that stopped Newport going further ahead.
City Colts responded well with some telling through balls that were well defended, however it was Newport that closed the half on top with Cormac creating some valuable time on the ball to shoot and put Newport 4 goals up at half time.
The second half started with Bash on pitch and Jason between the sticks and more importantly Newport continuing to apply the pressure. However it was City Colts who scored first after just 3 minutes when they broke to score their opening goal of the game.
City Colts pressed again on 40 minutes and it was only a good stop by Jason that prevented them getting another goal back. An immediate response from Newport saw Bash laying off to Cormac who came within inches of scoring his second. It was Bash again that set-up Alex on 42 minutes for a well taken goal to take the score to 5-1 to Newport.
Newport were caught short on 50 minutes when City Colts skipped inside the area to score their second, however Gavin who was playing well in midfield set-up Bash who shot hard into the roof of the net to make it 6-2.
Scott and Gavin found renewed energy and kept City Colts pinned back in their own half, and on 55 minutes Hat-trick Hazza arrived in the box to collect his third goal of the game. Tom was also finding extra energy and a fantastic run down the right saw his cross run agonizingly across the goal line only to go safely out for a goal kick.
A throw-in on 58 minutes by Gavin allowed Scott to shine with a weighted pass to Tom in midfield who collected and blasted a shot into the left hand corner of the net with his right foot.
The Game finished with Newport running out 8-2 winners and keeping their unbeaten run going right through to Xmas and the New Year. With only one training session left between now and the New Year, all the players (and parents and coaches) could look forward to a rest over the Christmas holiday period.
