Premier Division
AFC Kempston Rovers 1 - 3 Newport Pagnell Town
Saturday, 15 March 2008
Kempston may be on -103 goal difference after this game and rooted to the bottom of the table but they made Newport fight for this win. Kempston took the lead around 3 minutes in when Paul Teague beat the defence to put the Walnut Boys one up. Newport missed a couple of good chances just after the Kempston goal through Drew Mitten and Vincent Shrieves. It wasn't until the half hour mark that the ball was eventually put into the net by Drew Mitten after a good run by Vincent Shrieves and a slight scramble in the area.
Half Time 1-1.
The second half Kempston started strong and could have gone 2-1 up but James Howarth made a brilliant save. Like in the first half Newport missed a number of clear cut chances but it was late on Newport took the lead from a penalty when Vinny Shrieves was tripped. The resulting penalty was nicely slotted away on the 77th minute by Fletch. Vinny made it 3-1 when he headered in from the edge of the six yard box at the far post from a good cross on the 80th minute. Vinny did score again but it was ruled off side, although he didn't look off side to me. Even a couple of the Kempston supporters were suprised that offside was given! Another chance went amiss but Vinny pulled a brilliant save out from the Kempston keeper. The Walnut Boys went close themselves but two of their shots were scooped wide.
Full Time 1-3.
