Premier Division
Newport Pagnell Town 0 - 2 Wellingborough Town 2004
Saturday, 12 January 2008
Newport started the better of the two teams with some good attacking play and welcome back Elliot O’Rielly from University to make an appearance. Drew Mitten came close with a break away down the side then shooting just wide of the far post. Wellingborough later also came close to scoring missing two or three headers from various crosses, Vinnie Shrieves even missing 1 or 2 (I’m glad to say)! The first half surprisingly finished 0-0 with various chances missed by both teams but even though goal less it was an entertaining half.
Half Time 0-0
The Second half Wellingborough stepped up a gear and it was the 53rd minute when Adam Handthingy put away a decent header from a cross from the right. Then 3 minutes later another cross from the right was met by Luke Dowling’s head to double the Doughboys advantage! Newport tried to get an equalizer from Drew Mitten, Martin Kelly and Elliot O’Rielly, with some good attacking football. The Swans did score but it was ruled off side, to the disapproval of the Newport contingent behind the goal.
Full time 0-2
It’s good to see Elliot O’Rielly back from University in the squad as he made a big difference in the attack. Lets hope Thorpey and Tappy are back for the game at St Neots as I think they are missed.
