UCL Premier Division
Long Buckby 3 - 1 Newport Pagnell Town
Easter Monday, 24 March 2008
The game started well with the Swans pressuring Buckby, Drew and Vinny causing a few problems for the home side. But the game was spoilt by a silly sending off by the referee. Vinny went in for a tackle fouling the player in the process but the over keen referee ran 30 yards and issued the red card. All I will say is it wasn't a malicious tackle and Vinny kept his studs down, a yellow would suffice at the very worst. This meant that the game was always going to be an uphill battle for the Swans. Buckby came close but some excellent defending by Rob Locke kept Newport level. The break through came for the Bucks when Jon Crockett scored on the stroke of half time to make it 1-0.
HT 1-0
The second half Newport tried to attack with the lonesome Drew Mitten up front on his own but Long Buckby doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Russ Dunkley picked up the loose ball in the area to place past Bruce. Buckby then added a third in the 79th minute when Carl Holmes nodded in a goal mouth scramble. Newport pushed forward with Kelly and Rob McDonald trying to support the lonely Mitten up front. This pressure paid off when Rob McDonald found himself with the ball just inside the Long Buckby penalty area. He fired the ball past the keeper nine minutes from the end to give the Swans a consolation goal.
Full Time 3-1
