Premier Division
Raunds Town 2 - 4 Newport Pagnell Town
Saturday, 26 January 2008
Hat trick hero Drew Mitten managed to halt the 8 game losing run with an impressive second half performance.
Newport started the better of the two teams with some good attacking football, coming close to taking the lead within the first few minutes. The first goal was scored on the 25th minute when Richard Armstrong pounced on a great cross from the right side from Drew Mitten. The Swans let the lead slip 7 minutes later when Raunds crossed from the right for Scott Manning to make sure the ball went into the back of the net. The Swans were unlucky not to take the lead with a shot from Kelly which met the cross bar. Raunds scored towards the end of the first half but it was deemed off side by the linesman. Then not long after, when I went to the toilet, Drew Mitten scored but again it was deemed offside (so I was told).
Half Time 1-1.
The second half was to be the main show for Drew Mitten. He restored the Swans lead on the 64th minute from a cross from the left which he met with a precise header.
Then 6 minutes later Drew beat the Raunds defence with pace to beautifully lob the ball over the keeper. Raunds continued to attack, coming close, and with this pressure were awarded a penalty for a trip. Dane Ridgway converted the penalty on the 72nd minute. Drew Mitten wrapped up a convincing performance and win 10 minutes from time. Rob McDonald shot through a defender’s legs for the keeper to spill the ball out to Drew Mitten to score and complete his hat trick.
Richard Armstrong had a very good game winning virtually everything he jumped for in midfield. An excellent all round performance by Newport Pagnell Town, the score reflecting the performance.
Man of the match has to be hat trick hero Drew Mitten.
