Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy - Quarter Final
Newport Pagnell Town 5 - 0 Flackwell Heath
Tuesday, 29 January 2008
Newport produced one of the most impressive displays of the season against a young Flackwell Heath side. From the moment of kick-off Newport attacked the Flackwell Heath goal and could have taken the lead within the first minute. Then moments later Rob McDonald broke down the right side to fire wide. Flackwell Heath pushed forward but couldn’t produce anything to threaten the Swans defence. The first goal came from some good play down the left side when Drew passed the ball to Richard Armstrong for him to play back to him but it was then intercepted by a Flackwell Heath defender. He hesitated too long allowing Drew to nip the ball off him to nut meg the keeper to make it 1-0. Flackwell Heath’s closest chance came when a thunderous shot skimmed the roof of the Newport net. Then just before half time claims of a penalty from a trip was turned down by the referee when the number 9 easily fell to the ground.
Half Time 1 - 0
The second half, Newport came out meaning business and wanting the job done in 5 minutes. I felt sorry for some of the guys still finishing their pint off in the club house, wow what they missed! The first of the goal rally came when the unmarked Kelly gathered the ball which he turned the defender to power past the keeper into the roof of the net (2-0). The next goal came when Newport won a free kick on the edge of the Flackwell Heath penalty area. Richard Armstrong took advantage of the arguing players to catch the goal keeper unawares to make it 3-0. Drew again worked the magic down the wing to cross the ball to the unmarked Richard Armstrong for him to power past the keeper into the net (4-0). Flackwell Heath tried to pressure but failed to score, Mark Bone and Lee Tinsley standing strong in the centre of defence. Newport missed an array of chances including Rob McDonald and Karl Kieren coming close to scoring. The final and 5th goal came when another attack resulted in the keeper clearing only to find the distant Drew Mitten. He used the fact that the goal keeper was near the edge of his area to lob him way out from the corner of the area. Amazing goal!
Another great result for Newport Pagnell, nine goals scored in two games. A result they deserved after the losing run before the Raunds game.
Final Score 5 - 0.
