Premier Division
Northampton Spencer 2 - 0 Newport Pagnell Town
Saturday, 09 February 2008
A kit clash meant a late start for the game against Spencer. How selfish that the home team wanted to wear home colours.
Spencer started better, coming close early on in the game, Stewart Dorrell keeping the score blank. But it was in the 18th minute Spencer took the lead when the Swans failed to clear, Ashley Bradshaw pouncing on the loose ball. Newport almost drew level when a good cross from the left was met by Richard Armstrong's head but did not get a decent connection, the ball going wide. Another chance fell to Rob McDonald but a good save from the Spencer keeper kept a clean sheet for Spencer. Spencer again came close to doubling their lead but Dorrell pushed the ball out for a corner.
Half Time 1-0
The second half the Swans played better than Spencer with slightly more possession. Newport pressed hard but the Spencer defence held up and cleared most danger. But the damage was done when Mark Bone attempted a back pass to the keeper only to get his studs caught in the sloppy turf. The ball fell short and Kevin Slin picked the ball up to place past Dorrell to double their lead. Newport did win two free kicks on the edge of the area. The first was taken quickly by Richard Armstrong but the ball was comfortably caught by the Spencer keeper. The second Rob McDonald's free kick beat the keeper only to re-bound off the cross bar. Later Richard Armstrong was yellow carded for an apparent two footed challenge which he didn't acual catch the player with. Then he was yellow carded again for an apparent elbow closley followed by a red (looked like he caught him with his arm while jumping for the ball to me).
I thought Newport were a little unlucky and deserved a draw out of the game.
Full Time 2-0
