Premier Division
Yaxley 0 - 2 Newport Pagnell Town
Saturday, 23 February 2008
A much needed win to increase the gap between themselves and the relegation zone. Yaxley suffered their 3rd home defeat by the Swans in a row. Of course we all remember the first of the three, Drew will never forget becoming the youngest player to score in the UCL prem!
Anyway back to the game. The thingyoos start well applying the pressure straight away. But it only took 6 minutes for Vinnie to score his welcome back goal. A great cross from the right for Vinnie to head past the static goal keeper with the motionless Yaxley defence watching on! Yaxley come close to scoring when Stewart Dorrell misjudged the ball for a Yaxley forward to pick up. He turned to shoot into an empty net without looking up only to place the ball wide (maybe he will look up next time). The Swans had a couple of shots which sailed over. Yaxley did pressure to seek an equaliser but the Newport defence held up very well. Lee Tinsley espeically doing a great job.
Half Time 0-1.
Yaxley attacked again missing some great chances but with the loss of Mark Paul and Ian Edge to Ely City it showed that they didn't have the player to finish the job. The misses included a one on one shot with the keeper that went wide, a clear header again went wide plus two or three other chances went amiss. Newport came close themselves to scoring a 2nd when Drew went close which went wide, then Richard Armstrong with some brilliant footwork was tackled but won a corner. Also Vinnie had a brilliant dipping shot but for the ball to dip too late to cause any real concern for the Yaxley keeper. The Swans did finish the job on the 84th minute when the ball was squared to Rob McDonald for him to place past the keeper from the edge of the area.
Full Time 0 - 2.
